ZFS on FreeBSD is a very elegant server solution. I certainly like to see some great GUIs created for ZFS, but it’s certainly not to hard to navigate without one. Here is an excellent article that encapsulates several things that I’ve learned over the last 8 months or so of running it myself.

I thought that this command line application LBackup 0.9.8q3 looked quite interesting. I think that this could perhaps be even more useful in (Gnu Linux/*BSD) server environments and on that note that is what I intend to try with a couple of clients that have some backup routines in place, but are not quite as robust as I would have liked to have written the scripts.

I thought that this was quite interesting.  It’s really great to see folks actually finding strong points to Linux distributions and simultaneously that distributors are getting more intuitive and strengthening.  Now, I’ve graduated to Mac OS X, but it’s good to see my old standby coming up the ranks.  Would like to see FreeBSD make similar inroads.

Boy, I became ill when I saw this. One of the comments suggests that we may not see this dearly needed feature. I frankly would rather not live without it (figuratively speaking…).

ZFS is finally working right under FreeBSD as I had better success with it on FBSD than Solaris simply due to some hardware on which I wished to run it as well as netatalk running *much* better (or perhaps I should say more easily) on FBSD.

I’m getting very close to needing zpool or raidz expansion very soon vs adding vdevs and playing games. This would make things much more clean and work as they should for sure. Plus we need to be able to s
