With the announcement of the production of a beating heart (from an animal sample) we are certainly worlds closer to the vision that many of us have of reproducing our own organs or replacement organs for others in vital need.  For example, I have a dear friend with hemophilia that is essentially in perpetual misery and jeopardy of death that really needs a new liver in order to enjoy a more natural life.

He cannot even sign up for a transplant unless he is considered dying (I really don’t understand what qualifies for dying if his condition does not) and thus has very little hope of any sort of recovery.  Currently the government pays well over $1 million for his factor medicine a year and he is unable to ever receive a regular job (must make under $5 per hour the rest of his life in order to qualify for government health insurance and he cannot live otherwise as no insurance company appears to be willing to cover him with his condition).

We have a much more serious problem in our nation with health insurance, I believe, than 95% of Americans really understand.

This development could not only make his life livable but also very much assist the massive drain of money in our nation that happens for so many in his situation.

I thought that this was quite interesting.  It’s really great to see folks actually finding strong points to Linux distributions and simultaneously that distributors are getting more intuitive and strengthening.  Now, I’ve graduated to Mac OS X, but it’s good to see my old standby coming up the ranks.  Would like to see FreeBSD make similar inroads.

If people accuse the Church of being a “geriocracy,” or being run by old men, then what do people say about the leaders of our country?

You know, it’s funny how people level silly remarks at things they don’t understand or simply would like to twist or corrupt.

Well, I do predict that McCain will unfortunately get the nomination for the Republican party and I am certain that he will be an absolute embarrassment in comparison to either Clinton or Obama.  I can’t wait to see him face them off in debates.  He will indeed be eaten alive on all sides.  This will be an unbelievably embarrassing election for him.  Well, at least after this he will certainly be out of the running next time around with his tale between his legs and Romney can come back in a very strong show.  He is the only one that can put any candidate in their place right now in a debate with intelligence and reason and it is a shame that he’s apparently not going to make it this round.

How we love and miss our dear prophet, President Gordon B. Hinckley. Funeral services were so very beautiful today and we are so thankful for his lifelong example of love and service. He is a man who may be followed by all people of any religious orientation as a true disciple and follower of the Lord Jesus Christ and as a peaceable example of kind and serviceable living. May his life be studied and may we all be edified by his example and teachings.

When he passed this previous Sunday, one week ago, it was indeed a tragedy to have lost such an important part of our lives. My wife shed torrents of tears as this dear prophet moved beyond the veil of this mortality as he is the prophet of her baptism. He was the prophet and president of the Church when she and my daughter were baptized back in 1997.

It is a sad occasion, however there is great reason to rejoice for him as well. Now he is with his beloved wife Marjorie Hinckley and with all of the other family members as well as the great and noble spirits who have gone on before. I am certain that he is engaged in the great missionary efforts that are being pursued under the direction of our Savior Jesus Christ in the spirit world at this moment.

May we, who are members of the Church of Jesus Christ, remember him and recall a basic admonition from him:

“The time has come for us to stand a little taller, to lift our eyes and stretch our minds to a greater comprehension and understanding of the grand millennial mission of this, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”

Isn’t it unfortunate that we have someone running for the presidential office who has been involved in a scandal such as this previously?

As noted in this article, former House Speaker Dennis Hastert of Illinois, also chimed in Thursday with a reference to McCain’s own scandal history. Hastert told reporters that he had worked with McCain on legislation early in his congressional career but “after the Keating Five scandal, he changed.” By contrast, Hastert said Romney has “never been involved in scandal.”

McCain was one of five senators involved in the Keating Five savings-and-loan scandal. The Senate Ethics Committee cited McCain for “poor judgment” but recommended no further action.
